Procedure Notes

The program checks to make sure there is space for the data files, but that does not necessarily mean there is space for the report file too. If it runs out of space the import fails, reporting:

Disk full writing spool file

Verify your data using File Maintenance if you see this message, because your data may be corrupt if the posting operation was terminated prematurely. If Sage Line 50 finds errors restore the back up you made earlier.

The pass number (1 or 2) and the line number in the import file being processed are displayed during the procedure. You may press ESC to pause or abort the process during pass 1. You cannot press ESC to abort during pass 2, because the result would be data corruption; you must either import the whole file or none of it.

If the program returns to the Import window after pass 1, format or data errors have been encountered in the import file. The target accounts data files remain unaltered. The program automatically continues with pass 2 if no errors are encountered. Pass 2 is noticeably slower than pass 1 because the program is now writing to the target accounts data files, whereas pass 1 involved only file reading. After the import is complete, the IMPORT.RPT file is displayed.
